Living like Jesus and sharing him with others to advance the Kingdom of God
Our Vision Statement
"Living like Jesus and sharing him with others to advance the kingdom of God."
Our vision statement has three thrusts:
Living like Jesus:
- Knowing the love of our heavenly Father, just as Jesus did.
- Being empowered by the Holy Spirit for ministry, just as Jesus was (Luke 4:1-14).
- Being prompted by the Holy Spirit to act like Jesus did.
Sharing him with others:
- It as our individual duty to share our faith with people by:
a) Living like Jesus
b) Sharing our testimony with them.
c) Inviting them to relevant outreach events and courses at the church.
- It is our corporate duty to encourage and welcome people into the family of God.
To advance the kingdom of God
- The kingdom of God is our focus, not just our church.
- Therefore, we see the church is a resource centre for advancing the kingdom of God and not an end in itself.
Worship - Team Ministry - Youthwork - Outreach - Practical Discipleship
Worship
"We will desire an inner God-ward experience of the heart and mind."
Values for our worship services:
In worship:
- An intimacy with God in worship.
- A content and quality of the music in our services that aids our worship.
- A longing to see a manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in our services.
- Space for God to speak to us.
- Time for sharing, encouraging and interacting with each other during our services.
In prayer:
- Helpful and relevant times of led and open prayer.
- Opportunities to be prayed with.
In preaching:
- Biblical, inspiring and practical.
- Providing systematic teaching.
- Addressing current issues and concerns.
Team Ministry
"We will work together towards the church's mission statement."
Values for our team ministry:
The minister(s), elder(s) and deacons working together:
- Aim to have ministers or elders responsible for the five ministry areas of the church.
- The elders and deacons will endeavour to maintain their unity whilst having separate roles.
- Lead and listen to the church family.
The church family working together:
- Break down age and social barriers through relationships.
- The church's Ministry Teams will work with church members to organise different events together.
- Actively encourage those who are either on the fringes or are less able/experienced, to be involved in the church family's life.
The local churches working together:
- Work with Christians from other churches to live more like Jesus
- Work with Christians from other churches to share Jesus with others and advance the kingdom of God.
Youthwork
"We will be vibrant, relevant and supportive to our children and young people in order for them to become Christians, grow and challenge other children, young people and adults."
Values for youthwork:
Experience worship:
- Meet God in our church services.
- Regular involvement in various ways in church services.
- All-Age services in which children are involved and Youth services led by and for young people.
Experience practical discipleship:
- Opportunities will be provided for them to share their concerns, feelings and failures with adults
- Accountable to each other at school and in their social lives as they live countercultural lives for Jesus.
- Youth groups will help them become Christians and grow as disciples (Bible study, prayer, giving, etc.) of Jesus in order to practically live like him.
Experience outreach:
- Encouraged to pray for and invite friends to church activities.
- Equipped to share Jesus at school, college, university and work.
- Engage in group activities in and for the community.
- Actively encouraged to consider taking time out in service for God.
- An easy life is not an option when living for Jesus and sharing him with others.
Outreach
"We will be unrestricted by our building's physicality and be a resource centre for the kingdom of God."
Values for outreach:
In personal and corporate evangelism:
- Equipped to share our personal testimony.
- Increase our "fringe" through outreach events.
- Earnestly expect people to be converted and baptised.
In social action:
- Practically champion the rights of the powerless.
- Open our buildings for the community, as long as it doesn't contradict our Christian values, and being prepared to "gain" nothing from our endeavours.
- We will do something in and for our community outside our church buildings.
In missionary ventures:
- Provide mission interest that leads to financial support and prayer.
- Encourage people to take mission opportunities.
- Provide mission opportunities for people coming to the church from other countries.
Practical Discipleship
"We will learn to live like Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit."
Values for our practical discipleship:
Equipping through preaching and teaching:
- Biblical teaching will be relevantly applied to everyday situations because our ultimate aim is not just to learn the Bible but, through it, to become more like Jesus.
- Emphasis will be placed on God's value of us: His love for us and grace and mercy towards us.
- Emphasis will be placed on our response, in the power of the Holy Spirit, to God because of his love, grace and mercy.
Equipping through Homegroups:
- In - Provision of pastoral care for each other.
- Up - Practical Bible study and prayer.
- Out - Attempting to share Jesus with others as individuals, groups and through supporting church outreach events.
Equipping through pastoral care:
- Those not in Homegroups will have pastoral visitors to care for and encourage them to become more like Jesus.
- Other discipleship programmes will be run alongside Homegroups.
